Photography and Self-Doubt

Self-doubt is a common feeling among creative people and something I have struggled with a lot. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others and to let that get on top of you, thinking your work isn’t good enough and feeling like an imposter.

Photography has always been an interest of mine. I remember my grandad taking photos of birds in the garden and playing around with early versions of photoshop. My dad also had an interest in photography.

It wasn’t until 4/5 years ago though that I came back to photography and grew my passion for it. Im obsessed with it, as well as video. I used to always look at creative people with jealously thinking I wasn’t creative even though I wanted to be so when I found photography again, it was like a spark went off. I finally had that creative urge.

Fast forward 4/5 years and I’m now a full-time photographer and videographer. It’s crazy to think how much I’ve learnt in that short amount of time. However that is what gives me the most self-doubt and the feeling of imposter syndrome because it is such a short space of time.

Sometimes as creatives we need to get out and remind ourselves why we do what we do. This is something we do less and less when we get into a way of life where our hobby becomes a job. We need to go and make things for ourselves sometimes.

I took a short trip to North Wales to do just this. You can see the video below

It can be one of the toughest things to do as a creative but also one of the most refreshing things. Getting out and creating something for yourself could just be the thing you need to find your passion again.

Just remember you’re not alone in feeling it.
